Synopsis : Existing polytechnic students (i.e. students in year 2 and 3 of study beginning AY2012/2013) who are not receiving 100% TTFS may reapply for the subsidy if they satisfy the criteria beginning 16 January 2012. For existing university students (i.e. students in year 2, 3 and 4), reapplication of TTFS will commence in May 2012.
The Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy (TTFS) scheme, introduced in 1991, is an education subsidy for Malay students, which covers their tuition fees at tertiary institutions. With effect from 1 January 2011, students with Malay as their first component race of a double-barrelled race (i.e. Malay-Indian or Malay-Chinese) are also eligible for the scheme.
The Government, together with Yayasan MENDAKI, has revised the income eligibility criteria for the scheme to benefit more Malay students in tertiary institutions. The revision was announced by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs at a Hari Raya get-together function on 9 September 2011.
The revised income criteria will be based on a three-tier system where students who come from households with per capita monthly household income (PCI) of below $1,500 will be eligible for the following TTFS subsidies:
Per Capita Income (PCI) Eligible Subsidy
$1,000 and below 100%
$1,001 - $1,200 75%
$1,201 - $1,500 50%
Implementation
The new criteria will take effect from the upcoming academic year i.e. AY2012/2013. Students who are currently getting 100% TTFS need not reapply.
Existing polytechnic students (i.e. students in year 2 and 3 of study beginning AY2012/2013) who are not receiving 100% TTFS may reapply for the subsidy if they satisfy the criteria stated above beginning 16 January 2012. For existing university students (i.e. students in year 2, 3 and 4), reapplication of TTFS will commence in May 2012.
