Central
Council of Malay Cultural Organisations Singapore
The
Council was officially established on 12 April 1969 with 37 affiliated
member organisations. It functions as a resource centre and coordination
point for its member organisations to pursue their own activities without
duplicating each other. Among other things, its objectives include:

To coordinate
educational, religious, social, cultural, welfare, economic and sport activities
for the Malay community, its affiliates and other organisations.

To organise
projects to enhance the progress of the Malays in the context of an industrialising
society.

To set
up a centre for all Malay cultural activities in Singapore.

To set
up a research and planning unit to study the educational, economic and
social-cultural aspects of the Malays and plan relevant projects to enable
Malays to improve their performance in these fields.

To identify
and evaluate problems of Malays and make appropriate recommendations.
The
Council also provides feedback on various issues and policies to appropriate
parties on behalf of its affiliates.
Majlis
Pusat offers a wide range of services, including :

Providing
tuition classes for upper secondary and pre-university students.

Setting
up an employment agency to help unemployed Malay youths to find employment
in the industrial sector.

Organising
forums and seminars on community and national concerns.

Publishing
reports on national seminars and selected literary works.

Providing
counselling services to Malay drug addicts through the Malay Counselling
Services of Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA)

Providing
financial assistance to needy families and students.
The
Council presently has a membership of 37 affiliated bodies which are active
in the arts, literary, social work, youth and sports fields.
