MENDAKI administers scholarships and bursaries for all deserving Muslim students.

The Ridzwan Dzafir Community Awards


Introduction

The Ridzwan Dzafir Community Awards (RDCA) is incepted in honour of the late Mr Ridzwan Dzafir, a man admired and respected for his relentless service leadership to Singapore as a distinguished Diplomat and an outstanding community leader.

Objective

To help promising career professionals in the public and social service sector who are pursuing post-graduate studies in relevant sectors.

Candidature for the award is by nomination only. Individuals or organizations may nominate candidates.

All nominations must include testimonials of past achievements and supporting documents.  Third party recommendations to vouch for applicant’s character and integrity must also be provided.

Field of Study

Nominees would pursue any public and/or social services discipline in which Malay/Muslim community needs to build capacity and leadership.

Priority will be given to nominees pursuing:
  • Organisational/Public Policy & Governance
  • Community Building, Culture & Citizenry
  • Trade & Enterprise

Eligibility Criteria

  • Malay/Muslim Singapore citizens between 25 and 40 years of age. 
  • Display strong ethos of public service and possess an unwavering dedication to improve lives of Singaporeans.
  • Demonstrated a soundness of character, high integrity, moral character and the potential to lead (testimonials and portfolios)
  • A considerable amount of work experience (3 to 5 years) and qualify for consideration into higher appointments in the public or social service sector
  • Nominations must provide referees and attach third party testimonials.
  • Nominees pursuing their postgraduate studies with direct relevance to the works of the Community Leaders’ Forum will be given priority

Value of Award

RDCA (Distinction)
One Doctoral Degree award or Two Masters Degree awards to be given out annually worth up to $100,000.

RDCA (Merit)
Two Community Fellowship awards to be given out annually worth up to $50,000.

Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award

Introduction

The Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award (GCTYPA) was mooted by Malay/Muslim leaders in honour of Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and introduced in February 2005.

Objectives

  • To provide inspiration to the community by identifying and recognising Malay/Muslim youths who can be role models in the community.
  • To help Malay/Muslim youths with potential in diverse fields beyond traditional academic areas to further develop themselves and realise their potential.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nominees must be Malay/Muslim Singapore citizens between 18 and 35 years of age. 

  • Nominees must be enrolled in a course of study beyond traditional academic areas, such as in the domains of culinary, sports, music, design and creative industries, performing and visual arts.

  • The Award will also consider nominations of students who display multi-disciplinarity in their fields of study, combining the abovementioned fields with ICT, an emerging field.

  • Nominees must be persons with high integrity and moral character.

  • Nominees must be accepted full-time into institutions either locally or overseas to pursue the approved course of study, apprenticeship and skills or talents development opportunities in the field of interest.

Value of Award

The value of the 4 scholarship awards are:
  • 1 overseas scholarship award worth up to $50,000
  • 3 local scholarship awards worth up to $10,000 each

Award recipients will be required to provide skills-based contributions to the community via MENDAKI.

  • Third party recommendations to vouch for applicant’s character and integrity must also be provided.

Special Achievement Award for Excellence (Non-Academic)

Introduction

The award is to honour students who have done exceptionally well in the non-academic field.

Objectives

  • To recognise the students who has attained commendable achievements in the non-academic field. 
  • To inspire Malay/Muslim youths to achieve excellence in diversified areas and be role models in the community 

Eligibility Criteria

Nominees must:
  • Be Malay/Muslim Singapore citizens aged 14 to 25.
  • Have attained an award at the National, Regional or International platforms in a non-academic field (please refer to Annex A)
  • Have attained the award in the period between Jan 2016 and June 2017
  • Have attained the award in an individual category
  • Be full-time students and have passed a recent academic examination
  • Past recipients may reapply should they display progress from their previous achievement.
Progress in platform
E.g. A recipient who attained a National award in 2016 may reapply if he/she attained a Regional award in 2017.

Progress in placing
E.g. A recipient who attained a 2nd place in 2016 may reapply if he/she attained a 1st place in 2017.

Singapore Airlines - MENDAKI Undergraduate Scholarship


Introduction:

Singapore Airlines' undergraduate scholarship scheme was started in 1977, with the objective of identifying and recruiting talent for management positions within the Singapore Airlines Group.

Courses:

All courses are considered except Architecture, Biomedical, Biotechnology, Dentistry, Law, Medicine and Pharmacy.

Where tenable:

Top Universities Overseas.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicant must be a Muslim Singapore Citizen
  • Strong academic records in Secondary School and Junior College/International Baccalaureate (IB)/Polytechnic
  • Strong leadership qualities as demonstrated in CCA and National Service (if applicable)

Condition of Awards:

Successful applicants are required to sign a bond to serve Singapore Airlines for 6 years.

Value of Awards:

  • Tuition and other compulsory fees,
  • maintenance allowance,
  • one-off pre-studies allowance,
  • air passage at beginning and end of course,
  • annual trip to any point on Singapore Airlines’ global network.

MENDAKI-Merchant Scholarship


Introduction

The scholarship was introduced in August 2006.

Objective

The objective of the scholarship is to encourage students to continue to do well in  their studies at the polytechnics.

The preferred courses for the scholarship include Bioengineering, Health & Life  Sciences, Nursing, Multimedia and Animation, Digital Media Design and Engineering.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Student must be a Muslim Singaporean
  • Student must obtain at least 2 distinctions and a minimum of a B3 grade in 4 other subjects in their GCE O level examination or equivalent.
  • Student from low-income family will be given priority.
  • Scholar must maintain a good academic performance for the whole duration of their study at the polytechnic. 

Value of Award

  • One scholarship is available each year to first year polytechnic student.
  • Each scholarship covers 100% of the tuition fee and $1,000/- as living allowance per annum.
  • Duration of the scholarship is up to a minimum period of study leading to a diploma or maximum of 3 years whichever is lower.
  • The scholarship is disbursed yearly for the whole duration of the course of study subject to satisfactory performance of the scholar.
  • The scholar must submit a copy of his/her examination results yearly to Yayasan MENDAKI.
  • No bond is required but the scholar will be required to complete 60 days of community service work with Yayasan MENDAKI, to be completed before or within 2 years after graduation.

MENDAKI-Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (MENDAKI-ISCA) Scholarship (Accounting) - Nominations by Universities


Introduction

The Scholarship was introduced in 1987

Course

Final year accountancy students in NUS/NTU/SMU/SIT/SUTD.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Muslim Singapore citizens
  • Full-time students 
  • Have passed first and second year-end examinations with a Grade C minimum
  • The Head of Accountancy department of NUS/NTU/SMU/SIT/SUTD nominates the candidate for the award


Value of Award

One scholarship worth $1,500 is available each year.

MENDAKI - Institution of Engineers Singapore (MENDAKI-IES) Scholarship (Engineering) - Nominations by Polytechnics & Universities


Introduction

This scholarship was introduced in 1985.

Course

Engineering in local Polytechnics, NUS/NTU/SIT/SUTD.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Muslim Singapore Citizens.
  • Full time undergraduates of NUS/NTU/SIT/SUTD (2nd to 4th year only)
  • Full time polytechnic students (3rd year only)
  • Pass all year-end examinations with at least a Grade ‘C’ average.
  • Nominees should not be in receipt of other scholarship or bursary

Value of Award

  • Two scholarships are available every year, one each for undergraduate and polytechnic students.
  • It is worth $2,000 for undergraduates and $1,500 for polytechnic students.
  • Selected recipients are not bonded however are required to complete 20 hours and 30 hours of community service with Yayasan MENDAKI for polytechnic and university level respectively, within 1/2 years after graduation.

MENDAKI - Dr Abdul Aziz Ali Scholarship


Introduction

The scholarship was introduced in October 2006.

Objective

To alleviate the financial hardship faced by Malay/ Muslim medical or dental students who do not currently qualify for other scholarships and bursaries.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Student must be a Malay/Muslim Singaporean
  • Each scholarship is tenable for 1 year only to medical or dental students studying at a local or overseas universities 
  • Student from any year (Year 1 to Year 5) can apply for the award
  • Students with good academic results are to be given priority for the award. However if the results are comparable, then those with a lower per capita income would be given priority

Value of Award

Total of 8 scholarships are available each year to medical or dental students
  • 3 scholarships for Year 2 - Year 5 students
  • 5 scholarships for Year 1 students
 
Each scholarship covers a living allowance of $3,000 only.
 
No bond is required but the scholar will be required to complete 14 days of community service work with Yayasan MENDAKI, to be completed before or within 2 years after graduation.

MENDAKI-Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce Foundation (MENDAKI-SCCCF)


Objective

The objective of the scholarship is to reward top Malay-Muslim Singaporeans or Singapore PR students who will be pursuing their undergraduate studies in any of the local universities (NUS, NTU, SMU, SIT & SUTD).

The scholarship will be used to finance their university fees or cover the living allowances during their term of study.

Eligibility Criteria

Students in their first year of study are eligible for the award.

Students with good academic results are to be given priority for the award. However if the results are comparable, then those with a lower family income should be given priority.

Value of Award

Four (4) Scholarships of $5,000 (one-off) each per year are available for first year university students.

The recipient of a Scholarship is required to serve 18 days of community service within the same year in which the Scholarship is awarded.

MENDAKI Scholarships (University)


Introduction

The scholarship was introduced in 1995.  It aims to reward top students who had performed exceptionally well at both GCE ‘A’ level examinations and Polytechnics.

Course

Preferred courses include Health & Life Sciences, Medicine, Multimedia Design, Engineering.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You are a Muslim who are a Singapore Citizen
  • You are commencing first-year studies in a full-time Degree course in any of the following institutions:
a. National University of Singapore
b. Nanyang Technological  University 
c. Singapore Management University
d. Singapore Institute of Technology
e. Singapore University of Technology and Design
f. Singapore University of Social Sciences

  • You obtained 5 distinctions (including English) in the GCE ‘O’ level examination
  • You obtained 3 distinctions (including General Paper) in the GCE ‘A’ level examination OR a Polytechnic Diploma with a Certificate of Merit
  • You obtained minimum aggregate of 37 points for the International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • Male applicants must have completed their National Service
  • You possess good records of active participation in co-curricular activities (CCA)

Value of Award

  • One scholarship worth $4,000 per annum is available each year to first year student
  • The scholarship is disbursed yearly for the duration of the course of study subject to satisfactory performance of the scholar
  • No bond is required but the scholar will be requested to complete 90 days of community work with MENDAKI

MENDAKI Scholarships (Polytechnic)


Introduction

The scholarship was introduced in 1995. It aims to reward students wishing to pursue courses at any of the local government polytechnics.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You are a Muslim Singapore Citizen or Muslim Permanent Resident of Singapore who has been residing in Singapore for at least 5 years immediately before being admitted to the institution.\

  • You are commencing first-year studies in a full-time Diploma course in any of the following institutions;
a. Nanyang Polytechnic
b. Ngee Ann Polytechnic
c. Singapore Polytechnic
d. Temasek Polytechnic
e. Republic Polytechnic

  • You obtained outstanding results in :
a. Singapore Cambridge GCE ‘O’ or GCE ‘A’ level examinations, preferably with 3 distinctions; or
b. Nitec Higher Nitec with cumulative GPA score of 3.5 and above

  • You possess good records of active participation in co-curricular activities (CCA)

Condition

  • No bond is required but the scholar will be requested to complete 30 days of community work with MENDAKI.
  • Interviews will be held for short listed candidates after they have been accepted by the Polytechnic.

Value of Award

  • Three scholarships worth $2,000 each are available each year to first year students.
  • The scholarship is disbursed yearly for the duration of the course of study subject to satisfactory performance of the scholar

Special Malay Bursary (University)


Introduction

Before 1995, the Public Service Commission (PSC) administered the Special Malay Bursary (SMB) for Malay students studying in the local tertiary institutions. 

In 1995, MENDAKI took over the administration of the SMB.

Condition

  • Successful applicants will be enlisted for “compulsory” volunteerism in MENDAKI or its affiliates. University students are required to serve 136 days (or 952 hours).
  • Applicants must apply and complete the admission procedures required by the institutions. They must inform MENDAKI on the outcome of their application to the institution. Applicants who are successful in obtaining a place in the institution must apply for MENDAKI Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy (TTFS) scheme if the family per capita income does not exceed $1,500.
  • Applicants from the low-income family will be given priority
  • Interviews will be held for short listed candidates after they have been accepted by the University. Successful candidate will need to furnish two guarantors.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You are a Malay Singapore Citizen and have been residing in Singapore for at least 5 years immediately before being admitted to the institution
  • You are in the first year of study and enrolled in any of the following institutions:
a. National University of Singapore
b. Nanyang Technological University / National Institute of Education
c. Singapore Management University
d. Singapore Institute of Technology
e. Singapore University of Technology and Design
f.  Singapore University of Social Sciences

  • You obtained outstanding results in :
a. Singapore Cambridge GCE ‘O’ and GCE ‘A’ level examinations; and/or
b. Polytechnic Diploma with a Certificate of Merit
c. International Baccalaureate Diploma

  • You possess good records of active participation in co-curricular activities (CCA)
  • Male applicants must have completed their National Service

Value of Award

Living allowance worth $3,400 per annum is available each year to successful candidates. Tuition fee either at 100%, 75% or 50% based on your application for TTFS, as mentioned above.

Introduction

PSB - MENDAKI Scholarship


Introduction

The scholarship was introduced in March 2014.   
 

Objective

The PSB Academy – MENDAKI Scholarship is a collaborative effort towards enhancing the Malay/Muslim community’s educational journey. Yayasan MENDAKI, together with PSB Academy, is taking the opportunity to increase the provision of academic opportunities to the Malay/Muslim community through the joint scholarship programme.

Yayasan MENDAKI – Dr Jai Prashanth Rao Scholarship

Introduction

The scholarship was introduced in December 2016.


Objective

The objective of the scholarship is to encourage students to continue to do well in their studies at the ITE and progress to Higher Nitec and Polytechnic and University.

The preferred courses for the scholarship but not limited to include Information Technology, Cloud Computing, Security Technology,  Cyber & Network Security, Computer & Networking,  Interactive Design,   Community Care & Social Services, Nursing.

 

Eligibility Criteria

·         Student must be a Singaporean Malay/Muslim.

·         Student must submit a short paragraph personal statement to express what they want to do after finishing the course they have chosen.

·         Student must obtained good results in 

o     GCE ‘N’ qualification, the aggregate score for Mathematics and best 3 subjects must not exceed 9 points or

o    GCE ‘O’ qualification, the aggregate score for English Language, Mathematics and best 3 subjects must not exceed 26 points. 

·         Student with good academic results will be given priority for the award. However if the results are comparable, then those with a lower family income shall be given priority. 


Value of Award

·        One scholarship is available to First Year Nitec/Higher Nitec students.

·        Each Scholarship worth S$3,500 per annum and is intended to cover tuition fee and living expenses ·   

·        Duration of the scholarship is up to a minimum period of study leading to a Nitec or Higher Nitec or maximum of 4 years whichever is lower.

·        The scholarship is disbursed yearly for the whole duration of the course of study subject to satisfactory performance of the scholar.

·        The scholar must submit a copy of his/her examination results yearly to Yayasan MENDAKI before the fund can be disbursed to the scholar. 

·         No bond is required but the scholar will be required to complete 15 days of community service work with Yayasan MENDAKI for each year of the award received.
