The Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award (GCTYPA) was mooted by Malay/Muslim leaders in honour of Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and introduced in February 2005.
o To provide inspiration to the community by identifying and recognising Malay/Muslim youths who can be role models in the community.
o To help Malay/Muslim youths with potential in diverse fields beyond traditional academic areas to further develop themselves and realise their potential.
o Nominees must be Malay/Muslim Singapore citizens between 18 and 35 years of age.
o Nominees must display potential in areas beyond academic such as in the domains of sports, music, design and creative industries, literary, and performing and visual arts.
o Nominees must be persons with high integrity and moral character.
o Nominees must be accepted full-time into institutions either locally or overseas to pursue the approved course of study, apprenticeship and skills or talents development opportunities in the field of interest.
Nominations must provide referees such as teachers or past employers and must attach third party testimonials.
The value of the 4 scholarship awards are:
o 1 scholarship award worth up to $50,000 (Distinction Award - Overseas)
o 3 scholarship awards worth up to $10,000 each (Merit Award - Local)
The winner is required to perform volunteer and community service with MENDAKI after completing the course.
o Candidature for the award is by nomination only. Individuals or organizations may nominate candidates.
o All nominations must include testimonials of past achievements and supporting documents. Third party recommendations to vouch for applicant’s character and integrity must also be provided.
Completed application forms with necessary supporting documents must be submitted to Yayasan MENDAKI by 8 June 2015.
