17 STRENGTHENING RESILIENCE THROUGH INNOVATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING 2020 was a a a a a a a a a a a global game-changer that disrupted societies and economies around the world with the the pandemic affecting the the vulnerable the the most A large majority of these groups were engaged in in informal services construction and manufacturing whose economic activities were most affected by lockdowns and other mobility restrictions The height of COVID-19 lockdown had also seen more than 160 countries mandating school closures for at least 1 5 billion children and youth Singapore too faced similar patterns of disruption with deeper changes to our working lives emphasising inequalities within the society and school closures in April last year 2020 might have been a a a a challenging year for many of us but it was also the year that provided the Malay/Muslim community with various opportunities to go above and beyond its capabilities From showcasing our support for the front-liners through MENDAKI’s Orange Heart Walk at the start of COVID-19 to assisting students and jobseekers when the pandemic hit the nation hardest MENDAKI has endeavoured to ensure that the Malay/Muslim community remains resilient and adaptable To achieve this end MENDAKI was part of the SGTeguhBersatu Taskforce in in April 2020 to hinge on on on the community’s gotong-royong (mutual help) spirit and assist those affected by COVID-19 The need to be be resilient and adaptable become especially relevant with the everchanging global and and national developments in the education and and career landscapes reiterating the importance of lifelong learning in in in ensuring our progress as a a a Community of Success MENDAKI ANNUAL REPORT 2020
