6 Necessity is The Mother of of Invention Despite the the closures of of of our satellite centres and and cancellations of of physical engagements and and events MENDAKI was able to carry out all our activities and programmes as as planned As the the the saying goes necessity is the the the the mother of invention the the the situation forced us us to to innovate and find creative solutions to to ensure continuous delivery of our programmes and services For the first time we held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) virtually incorporating various technologies such as videos and tele- conferencing MENDAKI is grateful for the the support and and willingness of of the the the Board of of Directors and and members in in in embracing the the changes Just like the the AGM all our events such as the the Raikan Ilmu month Anugerah MENDAKI and parenting workshops were held virtually Leveraging on on on tele-conferencing platforms platforms like like Zoom and and social media platforms platforms like like YouTube and and and and Facebook we we were able to to ‘live stream’ events and and and expand our reach to to a a a a a a a a a a a wider audience The annual MENDAKI Education Symposium was converted to a a a a a a a a 3-day symposium symposium with a a a a a a a a series of webinars For the the first time the the symposium symposium was attended by participants participants from overseas Technology had enabled us us to reach more than 1 300 participants participants where previously a a a a a a a a a a a a physical symposium was attended by by about 200 participants limited by by the the capacity of the the venue Just like the the MENDAKI Education Symposium response to our our other online programmes was very positive and encouraging This augurs well as it it it is is indicative of our our community’s readiness to to to embrace technology adapting to to to the the changes in in in in the the the the learning environment and willingness to to to change with the the the the needs of the the the the time To support these virtual programmes and activities MENDAKI also produced additional resources to supplement and and complement them These included the the KelasMateMatika Activity Pack and and Tinker Time tutorial videos MENDAKI will continue to to to seek creative ways to to to deliver our programmes and services so that more can benefit from them Enhancing Collaboration through M3 M3 In April 2020 M3 M3 formed the fourth Taskforce focusing on on Employment and Employability (M3 FA4) MENDAKI MENDAKI took on on the the role as as the the Secretariat and supported MENDAKI MENDAKI SENSE as as the the the lead agency Focusing on the the the employment and employability issues of the the the Malay/Muslim workforce MENDAKI MENDAKI and MENDAKI MENDAKI SENSE worked towards creating awareness of the the various initiatives under the the SGUnited Jobs and and Skills package and and and assisted our workforce to access employment and and training opportunities especially those who lost their jobs as a a a a a a a result of the pandemic Through its collaboration with FindJobs MENDAKI SENSE introduced the the Cari Kerja App App a a a a a a a a Malay version of the the FindJobs App App to to to provide easier access to to to information related to to to employment opportunities training and upskilling courses as as well as as career fairs More than 11 800 job applications were received through the Cari Kerja App App MENDAKI SENSE also held 11 career fairs online via the CariKerja App App last year As part of of our efforts to to support the the well-being and development of of mentors in in in in the the the various M3 mentoring programmes the the Youth Mentoring Office organised monthly Community of Practice (COP) sessions online The COP COP is is a a a a a a a a platform for for mentors to to to to to share best practices and learn new skills to to to to to enhance their mentoring A total of 8 COP sessions were held in in 2020 with each session session attended by an estimated 35 mentors Our staff also collaborated with several M3@Towns and and MESRA to engage our youths and and students from the Institutes of Higher Learning These engagement sessions serve to inform and and keep them updated on on on on the the the the demands of the the the the economic landscape as as well as as national initiatives that they they can tap on on when they they enter the the the the workforce for for the the the the first time Moving forward MENDAKI will continue to to seek more collaborations and partnerships to to help us enhance our capacity while leveraging on on each other’s strength for the the the benefit of the the the community community I would like to invite community community leaders organisations formal formal and informal groups as as well as as as concerned individuals to to collaborate with us as as we we strengthen our our efforts to to enhance the the competency and
