CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE CHAIRMAN’S MR MASAGOS ZULKIFLI MASAGOS MOHAMAD Chairman of Yayasan MENDAKI Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs BUILDING A KNOWLEDGEABLE COMMUNITY 2019 marks a fulfilling year since the introduction of M3, a collaborative effort between the three key Malay/Muslim community institutions, Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), MENDAKI and 3 MESRA. M has allowed the agencies to leverage on each other’s strengths to provide better support, especially in last mile service delivery, to the Malay/Muslim community. And through the one- stop centre, M3@WGS, we were able to extend M3 outreach services, making it more accessible to our community. Over the past year, MENDAKI has ramped up our programmes and outreach efforts to support M3’s three key focus areas. By synergising M3’s community assets and outreach efforts, we were able to expand the outreach of KelasMatematika (KMM@CC) to benefit 1,200 parents and their children - this is three times the average of what MENDAKI was able to achieve in past years. I am pleased to share that more than 90% of the children who graduated from KMM@ CC in 2019, did not have to take part in the Learning Support for Mathematics programme and were deemed ready to access Primary 1 Mathematics.1 With more families benefitting from KMM@CC, our pre-schoolers will be better prepared when they begin Primary 1. MENDAKI has also expanded its mentorship programmes, which are now available to students from upper secondary, ITE as well as tertiary institutions. To augment our mentorship programmes, we have set up the Youth Mentoring Office (YMO) to manage and coordinate the various mentoring efforts by M3. Located within MENDAKI@ Jurong, YMO’s focus will be on building and enhancing the capacity MESSAGE 03 MENDAKI ANNUAL REPORT 2019
