30 graduated from KelasMateMatika@Community Centres (KMM@CC) in December 2020 KMM@ KMM@ CC empowers parents with mediated-learning experience (MLE) techniques in in aiding their child’s learning of basic numeracy concepts It also provides hands-on activities that enhance life skills and encourage family bonding Adapting to the safety measures MENDAKI introduced eKMM in in August 2020 so that the KMM@CC programme continues to be accessible to the community The online classes conducted via Zoom complemented the limited physical KMM@CC sessions in Phase 2 of the safe reopening When 2020 concluded a a a total of 15 KMM@CC and 9 eKMM were successfully conducted benefitting close to 820 parents and children “When my friend introduced the programme to me last year I thought it it would be a a a a good activity to keep Zafri occupied especially when we we were encouraged to stay at home We didn’t know the programme is actually meant for us parents instead ” chuckled Mdm Suria as she recollected her experience enrolling in in in eKMM Realising the opportunity presented to hone her parenting skills in in in helping her child’s learning the homemaker roped in in her husband to actively participate in in the online classes as as well 2020 has forced everyone to adjust and quickly adapt so that we can continue to work and learn amid the challenges and disruptions caused by COVID-19 The Circuit Breaker shifted our focus to to new priorities and routines towards remote working arrangements and and telecommuting and and students went into full Home-Based Learning (HBL) As an an essential worker Mr Azman was required to to report to to work on most weekdays leaving his wife to manage their children’s learning at home “I saw how my wife tried to cope with having to double up as a a a a mother and a a a teacher to both my boys who were in Primary 1 and Nursery 2 last year It struck me that I I needed to to to play my part too and adapt to to to online platforms for parenting resources as the new normal ” recalled the project manager of a a a a a a statutory board Together with his wife their Saturdays were spent learning various methods and concepts to to effectively teach Zafri to to be be better prepared for Primary 1 Mathematics It has now become a a a a a habit Mr Azman consciously set aside time on on weekends to help with his children’s homework and extra assessments MENDAKI ANNUAL REPORT 2020
