CELEBRATING SUCCESS IN DIVERSE FIELDS Given the changes in the education landscape, it is timely that MENDAKI set up a committee in 2018 to ensure that the award continues to be a relevant marker for excellence. With the review of Anugerah MENDAKI in ensuring that our students are role models beyond academic achievements, the Anugerah Gemilang MENDAKI (Pinnacle Award) was introduced. This award recognises individuals who have made a positive impact on the lives of others over and above their own achievements. This is also aligned with the national call for holistic development of an individual as well as MENDAKI’s commitment towards serving the community. Selection criteria is guided by the 3Cs – Character, Competency & Citizenry - that contributes to the Community of Success. Four students were recognised for this prestigious award, each representing their cohort in the National Institute of Technical Education Certificate, CGE ‘A’ Level/ International Baccalaureate, Polytechnic diploma, and bachelor’s degree. In the academic field, there has been a steady increase in the number of recipients for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), GCE ‘O’ Level and ITE categories. These resonate well with MENDAKI’s efforts to ensure that our Malay/Muslim students are performing well in school and excelling beyond the compulsory 10 years of education. Beyond academic excellence, 14 youths were recognised for their outstanding achievements in non-academic field of studies. The Anugerah Belia Cemerlang and Special Achievement Award for Excellence (Non-Academic) were introduced in 2005 and 2008 respectively to reward and recognise Malay/ Muslim youths with potential in diverse fields such as culinary, sports, music, design and creative industries and performing and visual arts. Through Anugerah MENDAKI, we hope to inspire and motivate the Malay/Muslim community to seize the different opportunities, be bold and brave to take on the non-traditional route in achieving success.
