CULTIVATING A CULTURE OF LIFELONG LEARNING LIFELONG LEARNING ACTIVITIES WITH FAMILY & FRIENDS With the momentous launch of the MENDAKI & Malay/ Muslim Community Heritage Gallery & Commemorative Book, the inaugural Raikan Ilmu was in full swing. The start of the month-long festivity continued with Reading@the Gardens held at Gardens by the Bay. Bringing together families to bond over the love of reading, the event attracted over 1,000 participants. Aside from reading together and enjoying the outdoors, families were also encouraged to participate in exciting activities both on and offstage. From mass exercise sessions combining Zumba and phonics to interactive storytelling with larger- than-life characters, Reading@the Gardens showcased the joys of learning and encouraged the notion that attaining knowledge can take place anywhere. More importantly, the event called on the community to embrace and cultivate a culture of learning, starting first with the family. 53 MENDAKI ANNUAL REPORT 2019
