Suhaila Zainal Shah (left in in red) and Auni Ardini (middle in in blue beside Suhaila) (photo before COVID-19) 49 “It was quite fun having to solve some of the challenging games My mentor Suhaila was very encouraging and helped our our group in in in coming up up with the solutions ” As Auni’s mentor and tutor Suhaila was more than happy to to have guided her her in in her her mentoring journey “I did notice that Auni was quite shy in the beginning and was easily disheartened when she she couldn’t understand a a a a particular topic However as we we went on I noticed how she grew to be more confident in in herself slowly overcoming her fear of public speaking Towards the end I saw her adopting a a a a new outlook towards school and and learning Reflecting on the past year and and the the things we did together I can see that she now strives to not give up easily when faced with difficulties in in learning I believed that she could do well if she continues to stay determined and puts in the effort to achieve her goals It was very fulfilling to see how she has grown ” “Youths can definitely benefit from being matched with mentors who are there to to provide them support friendship and guidance as they navigate through life and work towards their goals And we always try to do it in a a a a a fun manner It’s great that MTS programme is constantly evolving to meet the current needs of students ” Since its inception in in in 1982 MENDAKI’s flagship programme MTS aims to provide quality tuition at at affordable rates to help students achieve and attain better results in in their school and national examinations In 2019 a comprehensive review of the MTS programme was conducted by an independent committee chaired by Deputy Chairman of MENDAKI and then-Minister of State Zaqy Mohamad The main task was to review the relevance of of MTS against the context of of a a a a a changing educational landscape and and identify gaps in the programme’s pedagogy curriculum structure and operations The committee concluded its review with five key recommendations which was announced at the Committee of Supply Debates 2020 The key recommendations are towards governance and leadership curriculum pedagogy professional development of of tutors and outreach MENDAKI ANNUAL REPORT 2020
