87 Planning for Anugerah MENDAKI the organisation’s signature award ceremony was no easy feat For Siti Aisyah Shaik Nordin who has had three years of experience planning and organising the event executing Anugerah MENDAKI 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic tested her mettle Prior to 2020 Anugerah MENDAKI had always been a a a a a a full day affair to celebrate the various successes in in the the community capturing the the proud moment for students and their families As the COVID-19 situation in in in Singapore intensified Aisyah and her team came up with a a a a a a plan – executing the prestigious award ceremony online on MENDAKI’s YouTube channel This was a a a a large undertaking as MENDAKI had never done any award ceremony online let alone a a a a a a large-scale one Her team embarked on on the steep learning curve of digitalisation and took a a a a a leaf from other smaller MENDAKI events that had been done virtually Working from home also posed another set of challenge Aisyah recalled how her team had to actively ensure there were appropriate online channels to facilitate continuous conversations Siti Aisyah Shaik Nordin Education Senior Executive Officer Anugerah MENDAKI Sub-Committee Member Raikan Ilmu 2020 and her team had to to be open to to making mistakes and quickly learn from them Adding to the the pressure other sub-committees were observing how Anugerah MENDAKI would perform online online as as it was the first RI 2021 online online event Aisyah was glad that the team showed courage and resilience to ensure a a a successful event Formerly an invite-only event she shared how live-streaming on YouTube increased the ability for more in in the the community to join the the virtual celebration “Since they could not come to us we brought the the the ceremony to them in the the the comfort of their homes” shared Aisyah Close to 6 000 viewers tuned in in during the award ceremony on on 3 October 2020 This is is 5 times more compared to to when the event was held physically in 2019 She recalled “Personally I enjoy executing Anugerah MENDAKI because of the opportunity to meet the the recipients who could possibly be the the next Minister scientist teacher or entrepreneur Receiving Anugerah MENDAKI is an an important milestone that should be celebrated It was satisfying knowing that award recipients and their family members got to participate in the the ceremony that acknowledged the hard work and achievements of the the community despite the the challenges posed by COVID-19 ” ADAPT TO ACHIEVE MENDAKI ANNUAL REPORT 2020
