90 PUSHING THE ENVELOPE TO DELIVER A A NEW LEARNING FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE “What type of activities could be carried out digitally and and yet maintain creative quality and and achieve the the desired outcomes Is the the community ready for a a a a a digital event and would the majority have access to these activities if they were conducted digitally?” This was the constant worry for Noorhafiza Halifi the team lead for The Learning Festival sub- committee She recalled “When COVID-19 hit us we had to change the way we we do our work and we we need to think fast It requires us to to adapt to to new conditions because of time sensitivity We needed to have the the ability to think and and understand the the situation fast and react ” When Circuit Breaker struck Fiza became anxious about how to execute The Learning Festival especially since the same event attracted about 30 000 visitors in in 2019 Cancelling the festival might result in in weakening MENDAKI and RI’s position as a a a a a a brand that advocates for life-long learning Noorhafiza Halifi Senior Manager Community and Family Engagement The Learning Festival Sub-Committee Member Raikan Ilmu 2020 The team had to adapt As most of the RI 2020 events were held digitally The Learning Festival must also leverage on digital platforms Here the team saw an opportunity to adapt their approach that would attract the the interest of the the public One of of the the many activities of of the the Learning Festival was Minecraft: Education Edition The online game promoted creativity collaboration and problem- solving in in an immersive digital environment While sorting out the the backend Fiza had the the mammoth task of convincing RI 2020 partners to continue supporting when it it went online With all the the uncertainties of organising the the event online new and existing partners were engaged to get insights and ideas on on digital content that would appeal to the the community Other than digital content the team came up with a a a a plan to provide physical resources and collaterals that could be delivered right to the the homes of the the participants These resources were for them to use during the the online workshops and competitions that had been planned for them MENDAKI ANNUAL REPORT 2020
