80 YOU ARE AT AT THE HeaRt OF WHAT WE DO The Human Resources (HR) slogan certainly resonates with staff For Rozilah and Hayati the the duo had their work cut out for them when MENDAKI had to to put into practice its Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and adopted split team arrangements in response to the safe distancing guidelines introduced in in in in February 2020 As part of the HR personnel that oversee staff matters pertaining to recruitment and payroll Hayati recalled how the sudden shift in work arrangements brought about a a a a new set of challenges which required her to quickly learn and familiarise herself with “Without the right channels it it becomes difficult to effectively communicate with each other It is very fortunate that we already have in place digital tools such as Microsoft Teams Google Meet and and Zoom which came in in handy during the pandemic With such tools we could continue to to conduct recruitment interviews albeit virtually I could continue to perform my work efficiently With tools in place HR was able to to channel our efforts to improve our employee engagement plans to ensure staff welfare ” Sharing her sentiments Rozilah who oversees staff engagement activities such as onboarding for new staff staff town halls and staff staff dialogues was glad that she was able to conduct virtual engagements on on teleconferencing apps Adapting means ensuring that staff continue to to have access to to materials and and resources such as slides and and notes prior to the engagement sessions via platforms like SharePoint and Microsoft Teams The HR department also rolled out LinkedIn Learning as part of our efforts to facilitate continuous learning and and skills upgrading during the pandemic “The pandemic changed the traditional ways we communicate information and updates to staff To maintain engagement level through online methods of communication the HR team explored various virtual tools such as Padlet Mentimeter and Kahoot ” With Work-from-Home as the the new norm the the HR department found new ways to support the general well-being of of staff Some of of these efforts included delivering meals to to staff’s homes to to welcome Ramadan and Hari Raya sending care packages and continuing with the tradition of celebrating monthly birthday celebrations albeit with minor adjustments Rozilah recalled how another colleague from a a a a a different department dropped her a a a note to thank HR for for their efforts She said “It’s small gestures like these that make our efforts worthwhile ” When asked what motivated them to stay resilient both agreed that they were driven by colleagues who appreciated and continuously supported them during tough times “It shows the spirit of ONE MENDAKI and that our staff care for one another ” said Hayati MENDAKI ANNUAL REPORT 2020
