KelasMateMatika@CC Graduation Ceremony 2020

For the first time, the KelasMateMatika@CC (KMM@CC) Graduation ceremony was held virtually on Saturday, 19 December 2020. This year, 187 certificates were presented to families who have successfully completed the programme which aims to equip parents with skills to mediate their child’s learning in basic numeracy concepts.

KMM@CC is a flagship programme piloted in 2018 under M³ – the collaborative initiative between three key Malay/Muslim organisations: MENDAKI, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) and the People’s Association Malay Activity Executive Committees Council (MESRA). The synergy and efforts between the M3 agencies allowed for the expansion of KMM@CC to include more locations across the M3@Towns.

The event was graced by Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State for Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development. In his opening address, he stressed on the important role parents play as their child’s first teacher, nurturer and partner in their learning and development. He said, “KMM@CC is just one of the initiatives that MENDAKI and M3 have put together to support and empower parents. As we move into a progressively technology-driven and STEM-related economy, it is critical for our children to have a strong foundation in Mathematics to help them prepare for the next phase of their learning.” He added that the transition from preschool to primary school is a critical process and encouraged parents to tap on the various national and community initiatives available for assistance and support.

Adapting to the safety measures of COVID-19, MENDAKI introduced eKMM@CC in August this year so that the programme continues to be accessible to the community despite the safety measures imposed due to COVID-19. The online classes conducted via Zoom complemented the limited physical KMM@CC sessions in Phase 2 of the safe re-opening. A total of 15 physical and 9 online runs were successfully conducted this year benefitting 790 parents and children.

Mr Ednend and his triplets were amongst the families who graduated from KMM@CC this year.

Amongst the graduating parents was Mr Ednend Bin Abdul Fatah who attended eKMM@CC in October this year. He shared, “The online classes offered convenience for my family as we can learn in the comfort of our own home. The skills and parenting tips taught during the lessons have boosted my confidence in supporting and mediating my children’s learning, and I even applied them to my eldest daughter who is in Secondary school.” Mr Ednend attended the 4-week online classes with his wife and 6-year old triplets, Ain Marissa, Ain Mahira and Ain Madina.

Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan MENDAKI, Mdm Zuraidah Abdullah shared:

“MENDAKI would like to thank Temasek Foundation for providing the fund to conduct the KelasMatematika (KMM)@CC. Together with our partners from M3@Towns and volunteer KMM@CC trainers, they have made it possible for us to extend this programme to benefit 790 parents and children this year. As we will be expanding KMM@CC next year, I hope more in our community will volunteer their time to be our KMM@CC trainers so more parents and children can benefit from this programme.”

KMM@CC is open to families with preschool children aged 4 to 6 years old. For more information on the programme and to register for classes in 2021, click here.
