Board Selection and Recruitment

The Board selection and recruitment is stipulated in MENDAKI’s Restated Constitution (refer to Regulation 21 Appointment of Directors).

The composition of the Board shall not be less than three (3) and not more than twenty-one (21) members. The Directors generally comprised:

  1. Default Directors who are co-opted by virtue of their office, for example, the Chief Executive Officer of MENDAKI, Chief Executive of Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) and President of MENDAKI Club.
  2. Appointed Directors who are appointed by the Minister-In-Charge of Muslim Affairs (“Minister”).
  3. Elected Directors who are elected (arising from nominations by members of MENDAKI1) at MENDAKI’s Annual General Meeting (“AGM”).

The Board is also empowered to appoint any person to be an elected Director, either to fill a casual vacancy or as an addition to the existing members, but the total number of Directors shall not at any time exceed twenty-one (21) members. Any Director so appointed shall hold office until the next AGM and shall then be eligible for re-election.

Directors who are co-opted by virtue of their office will continue as Directors for as long as they each hold such office. Directors appointed by the Minister shall remain as Directors unless they (or any of them) are removed by the Minister. Elected Directors generally serve for a period of two (2) years before they are required to retire save that such Directors are eligible for re-election.
